Lenalidomide

Common use

Lenalidomide is prescribed for multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and certain lymphomas. It works by suppressing abnormal cell growth, enhancing the immune system’s ability to attack cancer cells, and inhibiting the formation of new blood vessels that support tumors.

Dosage and direction

Lenalidomide is taken orally, usually once daily with or without food, as directed by a healthcare provider. Capsules should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. Dosage may vary depending on the type of condition, kidney function, and patient response. Regular monitoring of blood counts and other labs is required.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, a history of blood clots, heart problems, or infections. Lenalidomide can cause severe birth defects, so effective contraception is required for both men and women of childbearing potential. Avoid exposure to sick people, and report any signs of infection promptly.

Contraindications

Do not use lenalidomide if allergic to it or any of its components. It is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to high risk of fetal harm.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, rash, and decreased blood counts. Serious side effects may include blood clots, severe infections, liver toxicity, neuropathy, or allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical attention if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Lenalidomide may interact with anticoagulants, certain chemotherapy drugs, immunosuppressants, and medications affecting kidney function. Inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is near the time of the next dose. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

Overdose may cause severe blood count abnormalities, infection risk, or organ toxicity. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store lenalidomide at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep capsules in the original container, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.
